Built in 1927 to be Ottawa's finest address, the Strathcona boasted under-ground parking and a choice residential location in Sandy Hill. With its massive columns, elaborate pediment, and dressed stone coursing, the building marks an important transition from small-scale residences to large apartment buildings in this highly desireable part of Ottawa.

Amongst its prominent former residents were John Diefenbaker (residing in the right wing) and Tommy Douglas (residing appropriately in the left wing). Acquired by Andrex Holdings Ltd. in 1992, the building and its nearly one acre of grounds are being restored to their former glory.
