Built for the Panet family, Canada's foremost legal and military family in the 1860s, this building was converted to apartments in the early 1900s; by the 1970s the property was slated for demolition. It was saved only after a petition with 2,000 signatures was presented to the City.

After the Panet building was acquired by Andrex in 1987, the Mansard roof (which was removed in 1915) was restored and the building was converted to office space. The restoration received national attention, many awards and accolades, and the Panet House now serves as a foreign embassy.
